PetKnow Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data PetKnow ("the app") collects, why, and your choices. We aim to collect only what we need to run the app.

1. Who we are

The app is provided by PetKnow ("we", "us"), United Kingdom. We are the data controller. Contact: petknow@gmail.com

2. Data we collect

Account data: your name, email address and date of birth, and your password (stored securely by our authentication provider; we cannot read it).
Pet data you enter: pet names, breed, date of birth, weight, photos, health conditions, medication schedules and dose logs, vet details and appointments. This is information about your pets, not medical information about you.
Location: if you allow it, your device location is used to show vets and pet-friendly places near you. [We do not store your location on our servers.]
Purchases: subscriptions are handled by Apple. We receive confirmation that you hold an active subscription, not your payment details.
Ads data: the free version shows ads provided by Google AdMob, which may collect device identifiers, IP address and ad interaction data (see section 5).
Reminders: medication and appointment reminders are scheduled as notifications on your device.

Face ID is processed by iOS on your device. We never receive your biometric data.

3. How we use it and our legal basis

To provide the app: create your account, store your pets' records, send reminders, produce health records (performance of a contract).
To show nearby vets and places (your consent, via the iOS location permission).
To show ads and measure them (your consent, via the consent prompt in the UK and EEA).
To keep the app secure, fix problems and prevent misuse (legitimate interests).
To meet legal obligations such as tax or accounting records (legal obligation).

We do not sell your personal data and we do not make automated decisions that have legal effects on you.

4. Who we share data with

Supabase – hosts our database, authentication and file storage.
Google – AdMob (ads and consent management) and [Google Places, used to find nearby vets and places].
Apple – App Store, subscriptions and notification services.

These providers process data on our behalf or under their own privacy policies. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.

5. Ads and your consent choices

If you are in the UK or EEA you will be asked for consent before ads are personalised or ad identifiers are used. You can change your choice at any time from Profile → Privacy & ad settings in the app. PetKnow Premium removes ads.

6. International transfers

Our providers may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, transfers rely on safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, standard contractual clauses or an adequacy arrangement.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account (Profile → Delete Account) we delete your account and pet data [within 30 days], except where we must keep limited records by law. Backups are overwritten on their normal cycle.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit and access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep your device locked.

9. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct or erase your data, restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, and withdraw consent at any time. Much of this you can do in the app; for anything else email us and we will reply within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

10. Children

PetKnow is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
